Articulate Accessibility (DRAFT)

Articulate Storyline 360 can be used to create multimedia training presentations. 

1. Use Accessible Text
   • Design > Fonts > Upgrade Project Text
   • Design > Fonts > Display Accessible Text by Default
2. Use the Modern Player
   • Player Tabs > uncheck all that are not needed (Menu, Resources)
   • Check Sidebar starts collapsed
   • Player Controls > check Captions, Playback Speed
3. Set Slide Titles
   • Slide titles are read after “Slide:” at the beginning of each slide
4. Use Heading Styles
   • Home > Font > Style > Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.
   • Heading 1 on title slide, Heading 2 for slide titles, Heading 3 for sub-sections
5. Use Contrasting Colors
   • See the Color Contrast Guide
6. Use Large Buttons
   • Make buttons 44 x 44 pixels or larger
7. Add Alt Text to Images
   • Right click > Accessibility > confirm Object is visible… is checked > type Alternate Text (or Home > Focus Order > check/enter Alternate Text)
   • For decorative images, uncheck Object is visible.
8. Include Narration & Closed Captions for Videos
   • See Video Accessibiity Guide
   • Video Tools > Import > VTT
9. Don’t Auto-play Videos
   • Video Tools Options > Play Video: When Clicked
   • Timeline > right click video object > Timing > check Show until end of slide
10. Set the Focus Order
    • Home > Focus Order
11. Add captions to Screen Recordings:
    • For screen recordings that include audio narration explaining the steps, use “Video on a single slide” with closed captions
    • For screen recordings that don’t include audio narration, use “Step-by-step slides: View mode steps” with text captions explaining the steps
12. Use Accessible Feedback Layers for Quizzes & Set Layers to Display as Dialogs
    • View > Feedback Master > Insert Accessible Master

13. Use Accessible Quiz Results

14. Don't use Inaccessible Features
    • Don’t use Quiz Timers
    • Don’t use Drag and Drop
    • Don’t use Hover States to Display Information
15. Consider providing Accessibility Instructions
    • Add slide titled “Accessibility”
    • Home > Player > Player Tabs > Add > Name: “Accessibility (Alt + A)” > Action: Jump to slide 
    • Next Slide - Ctrl + Alt + . (period)
    • Previous Slide - Ctrl + Alt + , (comma)
