IT Trainee Program

The IT trainee position with the Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology offers formal instruction and on-the-job training in IT concepts and practical application along with the opportunity to serve state government agencies.

Eligibility Requirements

If you meet one of these requirements, you may be an eligible candidate.

  • Requires completion of a bachelor’s degree, preferably with a minimum of six (6) semester hours of coursework in computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, network and telecommunications management, data analytics, or a related field;
  • Requires completion of two (2) years of technical school in computer science or a related field. (The technical school must be accredited by an agency accredited by the U.S. Department of Education and clock hours must be convertible into college semester or quarter hours.)
  • Requires satisfactory completion of twenty-four (24) semester hours in computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, network and telecommunications management, data analytics, or directly related field from an accredited college or university;
  • Requires four (4) years of work experience in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field.
  • Requires an information technology certificate appropriate to the option of the specific position.
