Processing references the heart of the application, where the applications do their work processing data, as well as the many services brought to bear providing system administration and maintaining operational processes. The midrange environment represents a fully matured enterprise application hosting environment.

The operating systems hosted on the midrange environment include IBM AIX, SUSE Linux, Oracle Solaris, and Microsoft Server.

Most applications also utilize one of the supported database management systems (DBMS) such as IBM DB2 LUW, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL.
