Central Payroll System (CPS) is one of the ‘Central Systems’ offered by the Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS)/ The Department of Innovation & Technology. The Central Payroll System (CPS) is a common payroll processing and management system. It generates payrolls for 80+ customer agencies, using specified pay schedules, for each pay period in a calendar year. It is on-line and standardizes the processes and procedures pertaining to payroll. It is offered for use by both code and non-code Illinois State agencies and is administered by the Enterprise Business Application Systems (EBAS) Team.

CPS averages 160,000+ transactions per month. By offering a common application such as CPS to its customers, CMS/DoIT is able to reduce the costs associated with individual duplication of payroll system operations among its various customers. CPS customers also benefit from enhanced flexibility and report processing.
